PROF. DR. K.S. NATHAN
K.S. Nathan holds a B.A. Hons. (Class 2 Upper) in History, from the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur (l97l); Ph.D. in International Relations from Claremont Graduate University in California, USA(1975); LL.B. Hons(Class 2 Upper) from the University of London(1992), Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) from the Legal Profession Qualifying Board, Malaysia[April 1996], and LL.M. from the University of London [November 1996]. He is also a college-trained teacher (Malaysian Teachers College-Regional Training Centre, Kuala Lumpur), having obtained a Certificate in Education (Cert.Ed.) in 1966. His previous appointments include: Professor of International Relations, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur (1994-2001); and Senior Fellow, Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS), Singapore (2001-2007), where he also served as Editor of the ISEAS Journal Contemporary Southeast Asia from 2003-2007. Since April 2007, he took up the appointment as a Principal Fellow/Profesor in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Bangi. Prof. Nathan’s teaching, research, and publications are largely in the area of international relations and strategic studies including U.S. foreign policy, ASEAN’s relations with major external powers (USA, China, Japan, India and EU), Malaysian politics and foreign policy, and regional security in Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region. He is also the current President of the Malaysian Association for American Studies (MAAS), and has served on the Editorial Board of the Australian Journal of International Affairs. More recently, Prof. Nathan was admitted to the Malaysian Bar as Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on 31st July 2015. Currently, he is also a Distinguished Fellow in the Institute of Diplomacy & Foreign Relations (IDFR) and the Malaysian Institute of Defence and Security (MIDAS).
